Shoot!  I slept through my alarm.  Now I don’t have time to get to WOR on time for the workout.  I’ll still go, but now everything seems off.  During the strength part, we are working on a PR for back squat.  I didn’t even get close to a new PR.  During the WOD, I can’t stop thinking about how I didn’t get close to my PR.  I ended up finishing last for the WOD.  Man, will this day get any better?  It’s just 6:30 am.  I guess I’ll go home and get ready for work.  When I get to work, my boss is already there waiting for me.  He doesn’t look happy.  He tells me that I‘m doing a good job, but I need to work on a few things to improve on my performance.  I didn’t have time to prepare a healthy lunch, so I ate like crap.  The rest of the day goes pretty smoothly. After work, I go home and the kids are already there and they made a mess cooking dinner.  Great, now I have to clean that up.  After I clean up the mess, I sit down to watch some T.V.  There’s nothing good on to watch…not even on Netflix.  Man, this was not a great day.  I hope tomorrow is better.

How many of us can relate to this story?  It’s easy to focus on what we are doing wrong, but what would be awesome is if we would focus on what we are doing right even if it’s something small.  Just like the snowball effect on getting financially free, that same take it little by little method can work on our positive thinking.

Let’s revisit this story and let’s change some small things and focus on what’s going right.

Shoot!  I slept through my alarm.  Now I don’t have time to get to WOR on time for the workout.  (I’ll still go, but now everything seems off.) At least I can still go and get part of the workout done! During the strength part, we are working on a PR for back squat. I know I didn’t get enough time to warm up properly, so I make a mental decision to just get a good lift in and not worry about setting any new records.   (I didn’t even get close to a new PR.)  During the WOD, I can’t stop thinking about how I didn’t get close to my PR.  I decide to do the best I can and just get a good workout in.  I focus on what I’m doing, not what everyone else is doing.  (I finally finish the WOD). I finished the WOD!  I feel a lot better than I did when I first woke up.  (I ended up finishing last for the WOD.) I did do the best I could.  So, I’m happy about that.  (Man, will this day get any better?)  It’s just 6:30 am, and this day just keeps getting better!  I guess I’ll go home and get ready for work.  When I get to work, my boss is already there waiting for me.  (He doesn’t look happy.)  He looks like he might need to talk to me.  (He tells me that I‘m doing a good job, but I need to work on a few things to improve on my performance.)  He tells me that I’m doing a good job and he gave me some pointers on how to do even better. (I didn’t have time to prepare a healthy lunch, so I ate like crap.)  I didn’t have time to prepare a healthy lunch, so I will do the next best thing and order the healthiest thing on the menu.  At least, I’m not too far off my eating plan.  The rest of the day goes pretty smoothly. After work, I go home and the kids are already there and (they made a mess cooking dinner) they cooked their own dinner! Yes!  Now, I can quickly wash the dishes and sit down and rest.  (Great, now I have to clean that up.)  After I clean up the mess, I sit down to watch some T.V.  There’s nothing good on to watch…not even on Netflix. So now I have a few options, talk with my husband and kids, and maybe I’ll read a little later.   (Man, this was not a great day.  I hope tomorrow is better.) This day didn’t start off the greatest, but it ended up being a pretty good day!

Even if we get off of our eating healthy or exercising, we can make the choice to getting back on it. It’s as easy to get back on track as it is to get off track.  It’s just a matter of choice. It’s easy to focus on what’s going wrong.  If we were to choose to focus on what we are doing right, it can give us a completely different story.

“Focus on what you have instead of what you don’t have. On what’s right in your world instead of what’s wrong.  On where you’re going instead of what you’ve been through.” -Billy Cox
