Burpees – Love them or hate them, they’re good for you!

You walk into the box, set your bag down and walk over to the board to look at the WOD. Your eyes scroll down the list and you throw up a little in your mouth when you see the movement BURPEE. We all have an issue with this movement: it sucks. So let me tell you why we do this movement and maybe, just maybe,  it will turn into a love hate relationship.
We can thank Royal H. Burpee for this wonderful movement. He actually invented this 4 count movement to be a fitness test. The 4 count movement consisted of : Bend over or squat down and place both hands on the floor in front of you (just outside of your feet), jump both feet back into plank position, jump feet back in toward hands and then stand. Boom! The original Burpee It has since been turned into a 6 count movement, the one we know it as today.
Yay, Burpees! Said no one ever. But, did you know that burpees are AWESOME! Yes, I said AWESOME! They are a calorie-torching, strength-building, full body exercise. This workout demands your body to do 6 bodyweight movements in a row. Talk about an amazing movement! The burpee not only burns calories it also makes you stronger, is great for conditioning, they don’t require any equipment and you can do them anywhere!. So the next time you see or hear the word Burpee, you may still hate it, but love what it does for you and your body.
